In December 2014, the coalition held its first humble meeting after a climate symposium at McGill’s Redpath Museum and soon hatched a plan to use the right to initiative to demand a public consultation on fossil fuel dependence in our fair city.
A year ago, over 60 civil society, public and private sector representatives met at the Maison du développement durable to further refine our position ahead of the OCPM’s consultation.
A few months later, the declaration for a carbon neutral city was released and signed over 70 organisations, from environmental groups and housing rights advocates, to social entrepreneurs and medical professionals.
The public consultation vertMTL involved over 3500 citizens, including 36 segments of the population that supported the goal of establishing a vision for our city to be carbon neutral by its 400th anniversary.
